JAKARTA (IFT) - PT Sharp Electronics Indonesia, an electronics manufacturer from Japan, targets fiscal year 2011-2012 sales to rise by 18 percent to Rp 6.5 trillion (US$ 741 million), compared to fiscal year 2010-2011 sales of Rp 5.5 trillion. The sales target was set in accordance with the projected nationwide electronic sales growth of 20 percent per year.
Herdiana Anita, Marketing General Manager of Sharp Electronics Indonesia, said 50 percent of the target was met in the first six months of 2011. "Sales in April to September reached Rp 3.3 trillion," she said.
According to her, the target will be supported by the increased sales of products, such as televisions and refrigerators. Refrigerator sales contributed about 30 percent of the company’s total sales. Sales of televisions, such as liquid crystal display (LCD), accounted for 19 percent while air conditioners contributed 12 percent of total sales.
Sharp had a 22 percent market share in 2010. This year, the company targets increasing its market share to 25 percent.
Sharp’s products with the highest sales in Indonesia are partially imported. Approximately 15 percent of premium refrigerator products are imported from Thailand. Meanwhile, products such as LCD televisions are imported from Malaysia.
Meanwhile, PT LG Electronics Indonesia, Sharp's competitor, targets this year’s sales to reach Rp 8.5 trillion, a 63 percent growth from 2010’s Rp 5.2 trillion. Kim-Weon Dae, President of LG Electronics Indonesia, said 50 percent of the sales target has been achieved in first half of 2011. "Sales in the first semester amounted to over US$ 500 million," he said.
He said that sales of televisions, air conditioners and refrigerators contributed an average of 25 percent to the company’s total sales.
On the other hand, PT Hartono Istaka Technology, local manufacturer of Polytron brand, targets this year’s sales to reach Rp 2.5 trillion, 25 percent higher than 2010's Rp 2 trillion. The company will launch new models of air conditioners, refrigerators and televisions to support the sales target.
Based on data from the Electronic Marketer Club (EMC), national electronics sales in January-July 2011 reached Rp 14 trillion, increasing 23 percent over the same period last year. Televisions and refrigerators dominated sales.
